Luke Littler needed only 10 minutes to breeze into the second round of Winmau World Masters on an evening when Jonny Clayton Dazzled, Michael van Gerwen showed a new look, and Chris Dobey, Dave Chisnall and Gary Anderson were beaten.
Government of PDC World Champion Littler fell only one leg when he swept 2023 WDF World Champion Andy Baetens 3-0 to create a last-16 clash with James Wade on Saturday, after the latter defeated Mike de Decker 3-2 in a hard-fought opening evening game.
Littler was excellent on his doubles at the start of his clash with Baetens and hit his first four attempts before ending with a success rate of six from nine on the outer ring.
Nathan Aspinall also impressed and fastened six doubles out of eight and a huge 161 finish on the bull while swept Andrew Gilding 3-0 to secure a showdown with Chisnall’s conqueror Cameron Menzies beating his out-of-S-S-SIRT’s opponent 3- 1.
But tonight’s performance came from Clayton, who on average 112.77 on the way to defeat Martin Schindler 3-1 in a high-quality affair and earned a victory for Wales after the country’s Ruby Union page was drawn 43-0 by France in The six nations.
Clayton impresses while van den Bergh beats Anderson
Clayton will take on Ryan Searle in the next round after Heavy Metal looked out of the world # 10 Chris Dobey 3-1 and broke Hollywood twice in the fourth set after the first nine legs of the match all went to the player , who threw first.
Van Gerwen, meanwhile, recovered after missing a glut of darts to win the second set against the qualifying Bradley Brooks by taking the next two to win 3-1 – while wearing a black and gold jersey as opposed to his usual Green.
The Dutchman, beaten by Littler in the World Cup final a few weeks ago, wore a second -colored top to mark five years with his sponsor.
Van Gerwen takes Dimitri van den Bergh next after the latter rebound from losing the first set to Anderson – where he busted his score in the opening leg – to win six legs in a row and win 3-1.
Van den Bergh rolled four 14 darts on trot before closing the game with a 13-darth.
