Tiger Woods and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan have released a statement that they are “obliged to reunite golf” after a White House work session with President Donald Trump.
Present on Thursday was PIF Governor and Life Golf Manager Yasir Al-Rumayyan and PGA player Director Adam Scott.
“We have just completed a constructive work session in the White House with President Trump and he Yasir al-Rumayyan,” read a statement from Monahan, Woods and Scott.
“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we have launched a discussion about the reunion of golf. We are obliged to move as soon as possible and will share further details as needed.
“We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunion. The most important thing is that we all want the best players in the world who play together more often and are obliged to do everything we can to deliver this result for our fans. “
President Trump himself had previously commented that he had “interesting discussions” as part of the efforts to solve a schism in professional golf between PGA Tour and Saudi-supported life golf.
Trump, who has become deeper involved in trying to end the years -long gap in professional golf, appeared in the White House for a black story of history after meeting with Woods on stage wearing his presidential medal of freedom, while Monahan and 2013 Masters Master Scott was in the crowd.
“I’ve always tried to swing like Adam. It never worked that way,” Trump said, adding that he “had some interesting discussions” with the golfer.
PGA Tour said earlier on February 6 that after a meeting with Trump it was closer to reaching an agreement with the public investment fund, the Saudi backers of Liv Golf.
Woods, a 15-time bigger winner, has worked with Scott and Monahan on the subject, but missed the first meeting because his mother had died recently.
“I think things will heal quickly,” Woods said Sunday during the CBS broadcast of Genesis Invitational Tournament in Torrey Pines, California.
Liv Golf attracted some of the world’s best golfers after it was founded in 2021. The best players from both Liv and PGA Tour play only several times a year.
Trump played golf with Woods on February 9 at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump awarded Wood’s presidential medal for freedom in 2019.
