When we launched Google Assistant in 2016, Natural Language Processing and Voice Recognition Technology locked up a more natural way to get help from Google. Almost a decade later, we are in the middle of another platform change – this time transforming generative AI the way we interact with technology.
To continue our work to build the world’s most useful assistant, we have reinstated the experience with AI at the core of making Gemini for your personal, AI-driven assistant. While our expectations of what an assistant can do quickly change, the mission remains the same.

Millions of people have already switched from Google Assistant to Gemini, and they tell us how helpful the new AI-driven features are in their daily lives. So we will update you on how to bring this improved experience to as many people as possible.
Over the coming months, we will upgrade more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini; And later in the year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be available on most mobile devices or available for new downloads on the mobile app stores.
