Luke Humphries won his first Premier League Dart Victory over Luke Littler at the seventh attempt in the Night Four Final in Exeter, which further extends his lead at the top of the 2025 table.
Littler threw an astonishing 19 maximum during his three matches, although his level fell in the final against the world # 1, an average of 97 after a few scintillating performances in the previous rounds.
Littler started the competition with a smell and took 144 into the opening leg before breaking Humphries in the fourth to a 3-1 advantage.
He could and might have should have turned it into a 4-1 lead, but missed Dart at double 10 and double five enabled Humphries to break right back, while these two very same double returned to Haunt Littler when he was broken again in the ninth leg where Humphries closed things from there.
This means that Humphries’ points are voting over the first four weeks now is at 1 p.m. 15, seven free of Littler in second place, with the only second nightly winner in 2025, Gerwyn Price, in the third at seven after his quarter -final exit in Exeter. Michael van Gerwyn is the top four of six points, despite also losing his opening in the evening four.
Humphries: No more excuses against Littler
Humphries told Sky Sports After his recent nightly victory: “It felt like hard work, but I also felt my game was in a good way.
“Littler played great tonight, but didn’t play so well in the final, and I managed to put my foot on the gas – as I did in the other two matches – right at the end of the game.
“This is the first time I’ve beaten him in the Premier League. It gets harder every time you lose, but this time I felt a little more fresh and there were no more excuses – nothing could stop me.
“It’s a good start, 15 points after four nights. I would very much like to win the group; it’s a dream start, and hopefully I can continue to push and roll in points.
“This will give me confidence.”
Littler storms into the final but eventually comes short
Littler threw a staggering 10 180s, an average of 112, when he knocked Stephen Bunting 6-3 in their quarterfinals, where his opponent still wins through four weeks of the tournament, despite himself on average near 105 and threw six maximum in the competition.
Littler then blew Nathan Aspinall away in their semi-finals, ran into a 3-0 lead and eventually took it 6-2 with a 110 average and three tons plus finish, shut things out and books its place in the final with a deadly arrow at the bull.
Humphries, on the other hand, was not on his scintillating best despite reaching his third final throughout the first four nights of the tournament when he first beat Night Three Winner Price in the quarters before fighting back to dispose of Rob Cross in Final Four.
Humphries spiked a 156 checkout in the fourth stage of his fight against Price, grabbed the very important break of the thrown in the ninth, but then stumbled across the finish line as he missed five Kampdart – even accidentally busting his score at one step – before he got victory, lucky to see the award failed with six darts of his own on top, which would have forced a decision about legs.
In his semi-final against Cross, Humphries allowed a two-lead lead clip that falls 5-4 back due to some dodgy doubling frames only four of 14-end he spiked a fantastic 167 checkout and a 116 in consecutive legs to win it.
Earlier in the night, in the second quarterfinals, Cross and Aspinall overcame Van Gerwyn and Chris Dobey respectively with the final leg fighters.
