Joe Highsmith won his Maiden PGA Tour title after a remarkable reversal during the last two rounds of the cognizant classic at PGA National in Florida.
The 24-year-old had to make a five-foot putt on the last just to get halfway cut on Friday in Palm Beach Gardens and left him eight strokes back, only to charge the leaderboard with an incredible weekend comeback.
Highsmith Cardled Back-to-Back Seven-Under PAR 64S to charge through the field and put the club goal of 19 under, with American’s last 36 holes that are lowest in the history of the tournament and secure him a two-shot victory.
He is the first player of nine years on the PGA tour to win after making the clip on the song, which follows from Brandt Snedekers 2016 Farmers Insurance Open Success, with Rory McIlroy among the other players who have achieved it this century.
Highsmith described his bogey-free fourth round as “probably the best in my life”, with four birdies in five holes from the ninth key to putting himself in violation.
In the same stretch of holes overnight, Jake Knapp hunts a wire-to-wire-victory-throwing his chance of winning after choosing to play his ball out of the water on the par-four 11., not failing and subsequently mapping a triple-bogey seven.
Highsmith eventually ended two free of countrymen Jacob Bridgeman and JJ Spaun, who released rounds of 64 and 66 respectively, with Max McGreevy and Ben Griffin Three Strokes back in a share of the fourth.
BUTTONS mapped a history-making 59 rounds on opening day-to-date in a share of sixth after a final round 72, while Jordan Spieth finished in a proportion of ninth and Shane Lowry claimed bound 11 on 13 below.
Highsmith’s victory means he will automatically access the rest of the PGA Tours signature events this season along with an invitation to Masters to his big debut next month and a place on the PGA Championship.
