On Monday, Deputy Attorney (Day) Blanche published a memo entitled “Ending Regulation of prosecution” stating that the US Ministry of Justice will stop his crash on Bitcoin and Crypto Mixers.
Here is the exact language he used in the note:
“… The Ministry of Justice will stop participating in regulation by prosecution in this space. Specifically, the department will no longer target virtual currency exchanges, mix and tumble services and offline wallets to the actions of their end users or unexpected violations of rules…”
The following day, the New York Attorney General (NEWAG) James was co -author of a letter in which she urged congress leaders to set up federal crypto regulation, partly to prevent the use of cryptomers for illegal purposes.
Here’s what she and her co -authors had to say about cryptober:
“Effective Legislation Must Require Cryptocurrency Platforms To Expressly Comply with Anti-Money Laundering Laws, Know Your Customer (” Kyc “) Regulations and Cyber Security Protocols To Prevent The Use of Cryptocurrance to Finance Terrorism, Adversarial Regimes, and Crime. Cryptocurrency That Cannot Be Fully Traced, Such as Those Going Through Money Laundering Mixers, Must Not Be Allowed to Be Converted, Directly or Indirectly, to us dollars.
While Dag Blanche gave the benefit of the doubts of Bitcoin and Crypto Mixers users, New AG James suggested that all users of such mixers are criminals as she refers to the technology as “laundering of money.”
Such a language is deeply concerned to hear from a state attorney – much less any lawyer – as it supposes.
New AG James has hired this type of rhetoric around Bitcoin and Krypto since she undertook the Role of the Lawyer in 2018, and it is unfair because 1.) She has never once acknowledged that human rights and pro-democracy activists use mixers to preserve both their privacy and privacy and 2.) US citizens have the right to economic privacy.
So when the topic Bitcoin -private life becomes more prominent in the political sphere, make sure you do your part to reinforce the type of rhetoric that Today Blanche uses as you push back on the dangerous and unfair rhetoric of New AG James.
It is up to us to have our voices heard about this question and to let our chosen officials know that it matters to us, especially when the Samorai -Tevebogen and Tornado Content cases take place (more about both cases in the discussion below).
The fight for our right to transfer value over the Internet is private on the foot. Don’t stay on the sidelines.
