Luke Humphries: I want to stop Michael van Gerwen’s line of Premier League Quarterfinal Consistency | DART NEWS

Michael van Gerwen has consistently picked up points in the Premier League, but Luke Humphries will stop it when they meet at night seven in Cardiff.

Van Gerwen has won everyone except one of the six quarterfinals he has competed in so far, and continuously picked up at least two points to keep himself ticking in the Premier League table.

The Dutchman sits at 10 points, five behind the world # 1 in second place, despite not yet picking up a nightly win in 2025.

With the ‘green machine’ able to either move within just a few points after Humphries with a quarter -final victory or even go level with him at 15 points, if he wins the night in Cardiff, Humphries knows how important it is to stop van Gerwen in his tracks.

“If he beats me, he is within three points of me and he has not reached the final yet. So it just shows the consistency he has shown,” Humphries said.

“He has won five out of the first six round games, and he should probably have won it against Rob Cross in Exeter.

“Michael hasn’t played his best but you have to look at the record he’s had in the first matches. He wins them every time.

“And of course for me, I’m probably the one who stops him.

“As I said before the tournament started, these first round games are incredibly important.

“Two points are massive because there really is only one person who can surpass you with a lot of points, and that’s the winner.

“If people get three points in something similar, it’s not really that bad.”

If he beats Van Gerwen, Humphries thinks the spring will come off when he first has it at least the two quarter -final points wrapped, it’s when he starts playing his best darts.

“After the quarterfinals, I think you relax. And I think that’s what happens to me. You’re being released first and then it’s when I become my most dangerous,” Humphries added.

“I know Michael will be ready for it, because if he loses, he could be out of the top four.

“For me, I just want to break away a little more and give myself a little more leeway in the top four.”
