Chelsea’s Hamring of Southampton gave the perfect platform for some of Enzo Maresca’s underprested stars to rediscover their confidence. But that was not the case for Cole Palmer.

The 22-year-old has now failed to score a goal for seven matches. Even his creativity has dried up. It’s been a 14-match stretch without an assist to Chelsea’s Talisman.

Nor was it as the need to try. Palmer had seven shots against Southampton, more than any other player on the field. Nothing fell completely for him.

For the first time in his professional career, Palmer is in a corner. And he doesn’t know how to get out of it yet.

Palmer’s underlying numbers that were on their way into this game suggested that the problem is not just with him. No player in the league had created as many chances as him in the 13 matches ahead of this one.

Tuesday night, however, revealed a player who is short of confidence. Easy to forget, being just moments before Chelsea’s first two goals, but palms had two shining chances that were turned.

Aaron Ramsdale stopped the first one, but half the goal was to mute for Palmer to score. Then he seemed in two minds over shooting and passing when played on the right side.

Palmer has more than enough credit in the bank to draw on this race. It is the first dip in a sparkling first 18 months in senior football as a regular starter, where he has hardly put a foot wrong.

Maresca has no doubt that this moment will go soon. “All the big players undergo bad moments when they are struggling to score,” the Chelsea boss said after the game.

“At this moment Cole struggles to score or fight the right thing but he is happy. He knows this is something normal.

“It’s lucky because Cole had time in a big club with big players and knows that players go through moments like this. He reacts perfectly, he’s laughing. He has to enjoy football.”

But tougher tests are ahead of Chelsea and they need their star male to find their way out of this hole if they are to be serious challengers for the Champions League qualification.

Away Form Wrecking Villa’s Season

Aston Villa has a favorable Champions League last-16 slips against Club Brugge to look forward to next month. On this evidence, they must enjoy their participation in the competition while it lasts.

Their chances of qualifying for it again got a big hit with their 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, a result that leaves them 10. And again highlights their match away from Villa Park. There are now seven losses from their last nine Premier League fighting. Their record on the road is the sixth worst in the division this season.

It is not sustainable for a page with real hopes of the Champions League qualification to rely so strongly on their home form, but there is little evidence that the situation is improving.

In fact, this was probably their worst defeat yet. Palace repeatedly tore through them. The scoring line did not flatter them. Morgan Rogers took his goal brilliantly in front of the saw Thomas Tuchel, but it was the only positive on a gloomy evening that also contained a potential injury to goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

Unai Emery has to find a solution to their match on the road quickly as their next two Premier League matches take place at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium and Brighton’s Amex. There is also the small question about the trip to the usage to fight with. Right now, their form is threatening to ruin their campaign.

WHARTON stars while tuchel is looking at

When England chief Thomas Tuchel watched, it was somewhat perfect timing for Adam Wharon to make a long-awaited return to Crystal Palace that started eleven.

Minteh the unsaught hero who set the tone of Brighton

Kaoru Mitoma also offers such quality wide, but it was the performance of Yankuba Minteh without the ball that caught the eye. He was a phenomenal of possession with regard to work frequency and make sure Tariq Lampltey was not exceeded by Antoine Semenyo.

Minteh made an incredible seven tackles in the match – most of any player. Not bad for someone who has to play as wings. His enthusiasm for taking into account that the tone of Brighton can detect a huge three points.

Sessegnon all reminds him that he is still a strength to be counted on

Ryan Sessegnon has had to be extraordinarily patient. His former Premier League start came for Tottenham in a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal over two years ago. Twenty -five seconds after his next start in the competition he had his big moment and scored the opener.

Fulham -Fans know what their former Boy Wonder is able to deliver, the exact finish in the far corner that is typical of so many that he has scored in the past, the catalyst behind their promotion in 2018 when he was the year’s Championship player.

“A player who starts at 4pm on a high level, I think all of us here and probably everyone who loves football in this country acknowledged at the moment he would have a great career because he was a top, top, Top talent, ”said Fulham chef Marco Silva at Molineux.
