The US consortium now has a 51 percent share in the club and has announced plans to plow an additional £ 20 million. In the club when Rangers offers to catch Celtic, which ended 17 points ready at the top last season and won a fourth consecutive top-flight title.

Rangers is also looking for a new boss to be appointed in the coming days, with King being convinced that the new owners will get this decision correctly.

Here’s what the former Ibrox director and the largest single shareholder told Sky Sports News

Why Cavenagh and the 49s?

“This group of investors I think 100 percent is right for the club, and I say that now as a supporter.

“I am optimistic about the future, I think it is someone that the supporters can get back.

“I wouldn’t say this otherwise to the supporters, I really think the club is in the right hands.

“I think this decision was the right decision, otherwise I would certainly not have supported it and approved it ourselves, and I think we will now get the club back to the top of football in Scotland.

“How long does it take? I’m not too sure, but I’m not thinking too long.

“It won’t be immediate, but I think it will be done in a sustainable way, so when we’re back we’ll stay back, and that’s not what happened after 55 we came back, but we didn’t stay there.

“This time we have to come back and stay and I think this new investor group will deliver what I’m really, really sure about it.”

Were there other options?

“I was in discussions with a Saudi group. At a fairly early stage, I had satisfied myself that they had the funds.

“But the question was then, would they be the right owners of Rangers Football Club? Would they be acceptable to supporters, in my opinion? And had they, let’s say, knowledge and expertise to take the football club forward?

“They had the money. But what they didn’t have was Track Record to invest in football clubs. So I was still engaged in them in the previous stages of what the conditions for a financial agreement could look like and what it would work.

“When I got a phone call from [ex-Rangers director] Paul Murray, he said ‘Dave, I know you’re talking to people at the moment but I have someone that I think you should talk to.’

“After a chat or two with Paul, I was introduced to Andrew Cavenagh, and where it worked especially well, I ended up with the mix of both things I felt that was unique.

“If you look at a successful football club, there are really three key columns for it.

“One is your followers and the one thing about Rangers Football Club is that you always have your followers through good times and bad times.

“The other was your commercial football plan, how to actually run the club because the supporters’ pimples on seats and even selling replica sets are not enough to finance a larger football club. You need strong commercial and a total football plan around your transfer policies and income and expenses.

“And of course you need a financial plan to support it. You can’t do all this without the financing behind it. So you have to gather them.

“What I liked by my first chat with Andrew and then my subsequent chat when paraag [Marathe] And the 49s became more involved as part of the consortium, the kind of mixed opportunity where I felt they understood sports. They understood the commercial aspects. They have done a great job.

“So I felt I had this kind of perfect combination. They had the economic muscle that we need both now and in the coming years because things are not always going well and you have to be able to fill up from time to time.

“And they had football and the general sports commercial knowledge and expertise. So my main focus from that time was to work with the group, but tried to keep the Saudis in the background, just in case this agreement did not come to execution for some reason.”

How are you doing with the management search?

Former Rangers -President Dave King on the club’s search for a new manager with Davide Ancelotti, Russell Martin among the possibilities

“When you bring in a new manager, I refer to the Glasgow environment.

“Some people think it’s a little unfair, but definitely in my experience of Mark Warburton and others, who all thought they got Glasgow -until you come to Glasgow, you don’t get Glasgow -Ting. Even one like Steven [Gerrard] It came from Liverpool, where you think is closer to Glasgow.

“You can try to think that you understand it and you can talk to people who have been there before, but until you actually get in there, you don’t really get it.

“So I think that’s the factor that I would be vigilant to. I think the consortium will consider bringing a European manager who may have no experience of Scottish football at all, it’s going to go from the Champions League qualifications north of Scotland in a sad, wet, windy, terrible Wednesday and try to motivate your players and get results out of them.

“I think it’s a factor for me, but it’s not something the 49s are not aware of.”

What is the next for Rangers?

King does not expect a quick solution from Rangers’ new owners

“There will be some cleanup of balance and debt and make sure the balance is more stable.

“Then I hope – and what I expect – to see is a commitment to a financing plan that will see a significant investment in the team improvement in this window, but will also keep some of the funds available for the next few windows to come.

“I hope and expect the consortium to continue with the discussions we have had, which is that there is an understanding that investments must be maintained over a number of windows.

“If the idea is not only to win, but to win consistently, which I think is the plan, we also need this investment consistency.

“So I think we have the right people, we have the right business experience.

“I think it’s a good chance for the club that it’s not a supporter-led board. There are some benefits to it when you have to go in hand for money, there is an emotional tug to get people to give you money when you need it.

“But against it, there is almost a supporter mentality when you get caught in a number of bad results, it’s a bit ‘four The board, four manager’.

King reminds Rangers’ new owners to keep the fans on the page

“You are dealing with 100 percent of supporters, but it tends to be two or three percent dominating the media, and you tend to respond to the two or three percent of the noisy part of this spectrum of supporters.

“So I think that having people who are not completely depressed if you lose at home to a team that is the lower end of the table and that does not change their views on the world, I think is a good thing for the club in the future in terms of stability.

“Certainly what I think is necessary for new owners to take the club forward in this new world of modern football.”
